Softball splits with Christian Brothers |

MEMPHIS,
TN— The
West Alabama softball team lost the opener to Christian Brothers 2-1 in
10 innings, but bounced back in the second game to earn a non-conference
split with a 2-1 victory Sunday at Bland Field. In
the first game, Debbie Shisler went the distance for the Tigers (14-33)
as she gave up two runs on five hits and had five strikeouts. West
Alabama offensively had just three hits - Shisler, Sydney Sneed (RBI)
and Emily White. The
Buccaneers finished with five hits - led at the plate by Sammy Maness
with two and a pair of RBIs. Also collecting hits were Paula Cerrito,
Meagan Shackleford and Lauren Zavelli. Nikki Dunn worked all 10 innings
in getting the victory. She finished with eight strikeouts. In
the second contest, Robin Halbrooks and Jess Butrica each had RBIs as
the Tigers scored all the runs they needed in the fifth inning. West
Alabama had 11 hits, led at the plate by Laura Bagwell, who went
3-for-3. Others collecting hits were Corey Curlee (two), Butrica, Sneed,
White, Heather Shugart, Alisha Berry and Rochelle Thomas. White
earned the win after working seven innings, giving up a run on four hits
and three strikeouts. Kallie
McFatter took the loss, pitching seven innings for Christian Brothers.
She finished with a pair of strikeouts. The Buccaneers had just four
hits, led at the plate by Jenny Bernard with two. Meagan Shackleford and
Hannah Shackleford had the other two hits. The Tigers play host at 4:00 p.m., on April 25, to William Carey, which will conclude the home portion of their schedule. |
