HEAD COACH JANET MONTGOMERY

Janet Montgomery burst onto the West Alabama softball scene in 1989, leading the Tigers to three consecutive Gulf South Conference Championships and 103 wins in her first three seasons as head coach. Since then, she’s been a model of consistency, averaging 24 wins and grabbing additional GSC Titles in 1995 and 1997. With five Conference Championships, an NCAA Regional berth in 1997 and 387 career wins to her credit, Montgomery is among the most successful coaches in West Alabama history in any sport and one of the winningest softball coaches in GSC history (387-435-1).

"Our goal every year is to make it to the Gulf South Conference Tournament," said Montgomery. "We’ve won several championships, but every season we look to re-establish ourselves among the Conference elite."

Montgomery’s tutelage has also produced a bevy of outstanding individual performances. Throughout her tenure, the Tiger softball program has produced 44 All-GSC, 25 GSC All-Academic, four GSC All-Tournament, 11 NCAA All-South Region, three NCAA South Regional All-Tournament and 10  NFCA Academic All-America selections.

For Montgomery, the seeds for a long and fertile career in college athletics were planted during a standout two-sport career at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, where she earned a B.S. in Business Administration in 1986. One of the most highly acclaimed student athletes in Ranger history, the former Janet Koenig was a four-year starter and three-time All-District selection in volleyball and a two-time softball All-American. She was recently honored by her Alma Mater with induction into the Wisconsin-Parkside Athletic Hall of Fame.

Montgomery is married to UWA Head Athletic Trainer Brad Montgomery. They have one son Brock Mitchell, and one daughter, Jade Morgan.
