VALDOSTA, Ga. –
A late 12-1 run by the University of West
Alabama men’s basketball team wasn’t enough, as
the Tigers fell to Valdosta State, 57-50, at the
Valdosta State P.E. Complex on Saturday afternoon
in a Gulf South Conference contest.
West Alabama
(10-15 overall, 3-7 Gulf South Conference) was
led by a double-double from Stan Gill, who
recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds. Raymond Shaw
added 15 points for the Tigers.
Mike Crain was
the only player in double figures for VSU (19-6,
7-3 Gulf South Conference), posting 21 points on
the night.
The Blazers,
who opened the game on a 23-4 run, led at intermission 29-13. Valdosta State kept the
16-point advantage midway through the second
half and even pushed it to a 22-point lead with
eight minutes to play in the game.
The Tigers,
who shot 29-percent from the field on the game,
began to chip away at the Blazers' lead. With
under two minutes to play, West Alabama pulled
to within 12 points. Two 3-pointers by Shaw and a
dunk from Patrick Winters cut the Valdosta State
advantage to seven points, but time ran out on
the Tigers.
West Alabama
returns to action on Monday, Feb. 19, as the
Tigers will look to snap a three-game skid at
West Florida. Tip-off is schedule for 7:30 p.m.
