LIVINGSTON,
Ala. –
The
University of West Alabama closed out its
regular
season with a 93-62 loss to
#18 Montevallo at Pruitt Hall
in a Gulf South
Conference game Saturday on
Senior Night.
UWA (10-17,
3-9 GSC) was led by two seniors,
as Jared Hembree
scored 18 points and
Gill added15,
but it wasn’t enough to send
the six seniors out on a winning note.
UM (22-5, 11-1
GSC) had 58 of
their 93
points coming from Greg Brown and
Marcus Kennedy, as Brown supplied 34 points
and Marcus Kennedy added in 24. Darron
Robinson tallied 10 points for the Falcons,
closing out the double-digit scorers.
Up by 8 points
at the half, UM ran out to a 52-36 lead with
16:53 remaining in the contest. The Tigers
hung close, but the Falcons were too much in
the second half, reaching its largest lead
of the game, 36 points, at the four-minute
mark.
UM jumped out
to a 7-4 lead in the first half, but UWA
answered with a 5-2 run to tie the game at
nine all at the 16-minute mark. The Falcons
would run out to a 20-10 advantage, thanks
to an 11-1 run over the next five minutes.
UWA rallied,
going on a 19-10 to cut the deficit to one
point, but the margin was too much as UM
entered the intermission up 39-31.
West Alabama
closes out the season and bids farewell to
Rick Reedy, as he concludes a 20-plus year
career at UWA.
