HUNTSVILLE,
Ala. – Despite three players scoring
in double figures, the University of West
Alabama men’s basketball team couldn’t overcome
a double digit halftime lead to knock off the
University of Alabama in Huntsville, falling to
the Chargers, 93-78, at Spragins Hall Monday
evening.
UWA (10-14,
3-6 GSC) was led by Joe Eatmon’s 20 points off
the bench. Stan Gill tabbed in 17, as Raymond
Shaw added 16 points and 10 rebounds for his
sixth double-double of the season.
Jason Smith
led UAH (16-8, 5-5 GSC) with 33 points on the
night, as Tyler Dunaway tallied 20, along with
11 rebounds, and Micah delaRosa chimed in 16
points.
A 19-10 run to
open the second half pushed UAH’s lead out to 21
points and the Tigers could not recover, cutting
the lead to as close as 13 points in the second
half.
UWA opened the
game with the first five points of the game, but
a 23-7 run by UAH push the Chargers out to a
21-12 lead.
UAH, which
lead by as many as 22 in the first half, saw its
deficit slip, as an 18-5 run by the Tigers cut
the lead down to nine points before delaRosa hit
a trey with three seconds to lift the Chargers
back up by 12 points, 44-32, at the
intermission.
West Alabama
returns to action on Saturday, February 17th,
as the Tigers travel to Valdosta State for 3:00
p.m. tip-off. |
