Box Score

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Despite three players scoring in double figures, the University of West Alabama men’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a double digit halftime lead to knock off the University of Alabama in Huntsville, falling to the Chargers, 93-78, at Spragins Hall Monday evening.

UWA (10-14, 3-6 GSC) was led by Joe Eatmon’s 20 points off the bench. Stan Gill tabbed in 17, as Raymond Shaw added 16 points and 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.

Jason Smith led UAH (16-8, 5-5 GSC) with 33 points on the night, as Tyler Dunaway tallied 20, along with 11 rebounds, and Micah delaRosa chimed in 16 points.

A 19-10 run to open the second half pushed UAH’s lead out to 21 points and the Tigers could not recover, cutting the lead to as close as 13 points in the second half.

UWA opened the game with the first five points of the game, but a 23-7 run by UAH push the Chargers out to a 21-12 lead.

UAH, which lead by as many as 22 in the first half, saw its deficit slip, as an 18-5 run by the Tigers cut the lead down to nine points before delaRosa hit a trey with three seconds to lift the Chargers back up by 12 points, 44-32, at the intermission.

West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, February 17th, as the Tigers travel to Valdosta State for 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
