Final Box Score

LIVINGSTON, Ala. --  The University of West Alabama men’s basketball team was defeated in its first game back in Pruitt Hall on Saturday evening, as the Tigers (5-9, 0-1 GSC) were downed by University of Alabama in Huntsville, 80-58.

Two Tigers posted double figures, as Stan Gill supplied a team-high 20 points. Jared Hembree added in 17 points on the night, shooting 55.5-percent from behind the arc, as Raymond Shaw pulled down seven rebounds to lead UWA on the boards.

The Chargers (11-3, 1-0) received a season-high, 37-point effort from Jason Smith, as Casey Stafford added nine points and a team-leading six rebounds.

UWA, which was down 27 points at the intermission, outscored UAH 40-35 in the second half.

The Chargers shot 52-percent on the night, as the Tigers connected on just under 40-percent from the field.

UAH opened the game on a 9-0 run. UWA would put together a 9-3 spurt to cut the lead to three points, but the Chargers would answer with another 9-2 run, to put the lead at double digits, and would never look back.

West Alabama will return to action on Monday, January 8th, as the Tigers host the University of North Alabama. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
