LIVINGSTON,
Ala. -- The University of West Alabama
men’s basketball team was defeated in its first
game back in Pruitt Hall on Saturday evening, as
the Tigers (5-9, 0-1 GSC) were downed by
University of Alabama in Huntsville, 80-58.
Two Tigers
posted double figures, as Stan Gill supplied a
team-high 20 points. Jared Hembree added in 17
points on the night, shooting 55.5-percent from
behind the arc, as Raymond Shaw pulled down
seven rebounds to lead UWA on the boards.
The Chargers
(11-3, 1-0) received a season-high, 37-point
effort from Jason Smith, as Casey Stafford added
nine points and a team-leading six rebounds.
UWA, which was
down 27 points at the intermission, outscored
UAH 40-35 in the second half.
The Chargers
shot 52-percent on the night, as the Tigers
connected on just under 40-percent from the
field.
UAH opened the
game on a 9-0 run. UWA would put together a 9-3
spurt to cut the lead to three points, but the
Chargers would answer with another 9-2 run, to
put the lead at double digits, and would never
look back.
West Alabama
will return to action on Monday, January 8th,
as the Tigers host the University of North
Alabama. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. |
