LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – Behind a season-high 24 points from
Jared Hembree, the University of West Alabama
men’s basketball team snapped a three-game
losing streak beating Dillard 89-79 in Pruitt
Hall on Tuesday evening.
A night, where
all 14 Tigers saw action, UWA posted four guys
in double figures, including Hembree draining
eight, three-pointers in the contest. Raymond
Shaw tallied 17 points, with a team leading nine
rebounds, as Stan Gill totaled 16 and Jenario
Bunton chimed in 13 points on the night.
Dillard posted
three guys in double figures with Cornice
Wingate tallying 21 points, along with 15 from
Dupree Fletcher and 12 from Gordon Meadors.
UWA converted
on 54-percent of its shots from the field,
including just under 46-percent from behind the
arc and 88.9 from the charity stripe.
The Tigers
opened the game on a 12-4 run, led by two,
trey’s from Hembree. UWA would run out to a
24-10 lead, the largest lead of the first half,
but Dillard would cut the lead quickly tying the
game 26 all with less than six minutes remaining
in the opening stanza.
The two teams
would exchange baskets during the final six
minutes of the first half, but the UWA would
take would two quick baskets in the final 30
seconds to take a 38-34 lead in at the
intermission.
The Blue
Devils would be the aggressors in the first
three and half minutes of the second half,
taking just their second lead of the game behind
a 5-0 run.
UWA wouldn’t
let the lead stay gone for long, answering with
a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to grab a
50-39 advantage with 12:13 remaining in the
game.
Dillard would
keep the game close, getting within five points
on two different occasions, but the Tigers would
not relinquish the lead, reaching its largest
lead of the game, 16 points, with just under a
minute remaining in the game.
West Alabama
returns to action, Wednesday, Dec. 6, as the
Tigers host Clark-Atlanta. Tip-off is slated for
7:30 p.m. |
