LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – Behind a career-high 27 points from
Raymond Shaw, the University of West Alabama
recorded its biggest win of the season by
downing Clark Atlanta, 81-58, Wednesday evening
at Pruitt Hall.
Shaw, who
recorded his fourth double-double of the season
with 10 rebounds, was joined in double figure
scoring by Jared Hembree and Stan Gill. Hembree
tallied 14 points and Gill supplied 10 in the
contest.
The Panthers,
who remain winless on the season, had three guys
in double figures. DeAllen Hicks led CAU with 18
points, as Jourdan Blackmon chimed in 11 along
with Pauly Nickerson’s 10 points.
It was a back
and forth tilt between the two teams for the
first 13 minutes of the contest before UWA
grabbed a 26-20 lead, with seven and a half
minutes remaining in the opening stanza, on a
three-pointer from Joe Eatmon.
CAU and UWA would exchange baskets the remainder
of the first half, but the Tigers would take a
four point advantage into the locker room at
36-32.
The Panthers would chip into the four point
deficit in the opening minutes of the second
half, getting within one on several occasions,
before drawing even with the Tigers at 43 all.
CAU would take its first lead, since the opening
minutes of the first half, on a three-pointer
from Lindal Yarbrough with 12:10 remaining in
the contest, but the Tigers would answer with an
8-0 run and regain the lead at 53-48.
UWA would never relinquish the lead the rest of
the game, outscoring the Panthers 28-18 down the
final stretch to earn the Tigers the victory.
West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Dec.
9, as the Tigers close out the four-game,
homestand with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off against Delta
State.
