VALDOSTA,
Ga. — The University of West Alabama
men’s basketball team drops a 73-64 decision to
Georgia Southwestern in the Tigers first game of
the
Park Avenue Bank Classic.
Four UWA
players posted double digits on the night, with
Stan Gill, Jenario Bunton and Joe Eatmon all
posting 11 points, while Raymond Shaw chimed in
10 for the Tigers.
Georgia
Southwestern was led by Shawn King's 24 points.
Norbey Aragon supplied 17 points and Antonio
Campbell added 10 along with a double-double
from Adrian Robinson with 13 points and 13
rebounds.
UWA, who never
led in the game, fell into an early whole, as
GSW opened the game on a 10-3 run. The Tigers
would chip away at the lead, cutting the deficit
to one point on several occasions in the opening
half.
Bunton picked
up three of his 11 points hitting a trey at the
end of the first half to send UWA in at the
intermission down 34-33.
The Hurricanes
would open the second half with a 14-5 run over
the first five minutes to reach the first double
figure lead of the game, 48-38.
UWA would
again cut into the GSW margin with a 10-2 run of
its own, trailing by two points, 50-48, but it
would be as close as the Tigers would get in the
contest.
GSW would
reach the largest lead of the game, 12 points,
on a jumper from Campbell with 2:18 remaining in
the game.
UWA shot
39-percent from the field, including 40-percent
from behind the arc. GSW connected on 50-percent
of its shots in the contest.
West Alabama
returns to action on Saturday, as the Tigers
will face North Georgia. Tip-off is set for 2:30
p.m. at the Park Avenue Bank Classic.
