LIVINGSTON,
Ala. — The University of West Alabama men's
basketball team dropped a 48-42 decision to
Claflin on Wednesday night at Pruitt Hall.
Stan Gill led
the Tigers (3-4) offensive attack with 18 points
and fell one rebound shy of his first
double-double of the season with nine boards.
Raymond Shaw supplied eight points on the night,
as Patrick Winters grabbed seven rebounds for
the Tigers.
Claflin (2-3)
was paced by Phillip Brown with 15 points, as
Casey Jackson chimed in 11 points for the
Panthers. Earnest Sinkfield led CU on the glass
with seven rebounds.
UWA, which
shot 34.6-percent from the field in the first
half, shot just under 40-percent from the field
on the night, as Claflin made 44-percent of its
shots on the night.
The Tigers
held the advantage during much of the first
half, but with just over eight minutes remaining
in the opening stanza went cold from the field
and allowed the Panthers to grab a two point
lead at the intermission, 21-19.
UWA regained
the lead in the second half opening on a 7-2
run, but the Panthers would answer with a 7-2 on
their own and never trailed again.
West Alabama
returns to action on Friday, December 1st, as
the Tigers travel to Valdosta, Ga. for the
Valdosta State hosted Park Avenue Bank Classic.
UWA will face Georgia Southwestern at 3:00 p.m.
