UWA Tops Lynn At Flagler Construction Equipment Classic

VALDOSTA, Ga. — The University of West Alabama men’s basketball team picked up its second win of the season and snapped a five-game losing streak with a 67-65 win over Lynn University in the final game of Flagler Construction Equipment Classic at Valdosta State University.

UWA (2-5) opened a double figure lead on the Fighting Knights of LU seven minutes deep into the game and led by as many as 16 points before taking a 14-point advantage into the halftime break.  Junior Bobby Clark, who finished Friday’s game with Eckerd with 14 points, posted 12 in the first 20 minutes with LU.  Clark drilled 4-of-7 from behind the three-point arc in the half.  The Tigers turned in a 53 percent (15-28) shooting half while holding LU to 33 percent shooting from the field.

LU (2-3) trimmed the deficit down to seven points twice in the first 10 minutes of the final half, but the Red and White pushed the margin back to double figures at 57-47 at the 6:39 mark of the final half.  The Fighting Knights got within the final margin of two points before time expired.

The Tigers posted five players in double figures led by Clark’s final tally of 17 points.  Kevin Johnson turned in 12 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.  Brian Murphy carded 11 points while Maurice Naylor and Michael Billings each finished with 10 points in the affair.

LU’s Randy Jones paced the Fighting Knights with 18 points while Luke Postorino recorded 15.

UWA returns home for the final two home contests before the holiday break.  Southern Arkansas will be the opponent on Wednesday, Dec. 5.  Tip off is set for 6 p.m. at Pruitt Hall.  The Tigers will host Southeastern Bible College out of Birmingham, Ala. on Friday, Dec. 7.
