LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of
West Alabama men’s basketball team will
travel to Carrollton, Ga. on Saturday,
Feb. 16, to face West Georgia in Gulf
South Conference action. The Tigers
will look to earn a season split with
the Wolves after UWG topped UWA 77-64
earlier in the GSC campaign at Pruitt
Hall. Tip off is set for 6:30 CST. The
game can be heard on the official radio
station for UWA Athletics – Y 104.9.
UWA, winners in three of its last four
games, enter the contest with an 8-14
overall record and 1-6 mark in league
activity. The Tigers are coming off an
86-68 setback to North Alabama last
Monday night. Prior to the UNA loss,
the Red and White put together a string
of three straight wins. Over the four
game stretch, the Tigers have averaged
74 points per contest while holding the
opposition to just 68 points on the
scoreboard. UWA is connecting on 49
percent shooting from the field along
with pulling down 38 rebounds a
contest. The Tigers have averaged
double figures in the scorebook, led by
senior Michael Billings’ 13.3 scoring
clip. Junior Maurice Naylor and Brian
Murphy posted 12.8 and 10.8 points
respectively in the last four games. On
the season, junior Kevin Johnson leads
all Tiger scorers with a 9.7 point per
game average.
The
Wolves of UWG, who are in a log-jammed
second place spot in the GSC East with
Valdosta State and UAH, enter the dual
with UWA having claimed a thrilling
79-78 win over Valdosta State on Monday
night to propel the Wolves into a
second-place tie. UWG is led by current
GSC East Player of the Week, Paul
Harper. Harper scored a team-high 22
points versus West Florida and was
credited with 23 points in the VSU win.
UWA
continues road activity on Monday, Feb.
18, traveling to Huntsville, Ala. with a
GSC tilt with UAH. Tip off between the
Chargers and Tigers is set for 7:30 p.m.
