LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – With three players scoring double
figures, the University of West Alabama men’s
basketball team snapped a two-game, losing
streak by knocking off West Florida, 82-72,
Monday evening at Pruitt Hall.
Two Tigers
posted 20-plus points, led by 21 points from
Stan Gill along with 20 from Raymond Shaw. Jared
Hembree, who shot 60-percent from behind the
arc, recorded 18 points for UWA (7-11, 2-3 GSC).
Barry Durosier
led all scores with 23 points for UWF (8-9, 1-4
GSC), as Andy Beauchamp added 13 points along
with 10 from Lucas Evangelissta.
UWA, which led
38-28 at the intermission, never trailed in the
second half, shooting 48-percent from the field
on the night. With the game tied at 17-17, the
Tigers went on a 16-2 run to gain a 33-19
advantage with 4:24 minutes remaining in the
opening half.
West Alabama
would pick where it left off, opening the first
three minutes of the second stanza on a 13-4 run
to hold a 53-34 advantage over the Argonauts.
UWF would make
a run at the Tigers, cutting the deficit to as
few as seven points, but the lead was too much,
as the Tigers picked up their second Gulf South
Conference win of the season.
West Alabama
will return to action on Wednesday, January 24th,
as the Tigers will travel to Claflin University.
Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
