LIVINGSTON, Ala.
—A 17-3 scoring run on the final
five minutes of the contest powered West
Florida to a 66-54 win over the
University of West Alabama in men’s
hoops action at Pruitt Hall on Monday
night.
With both teams
searching for that elusive first win in
the Gulf South Conference, the two
squads played an evenly matched first
half as the Tigers led by as many as
nine points with just over ten minutes
left in the opening frame. UWA’s
offensive charge was led by junior Kevin
Johnson, who turned in 11 of his 15
points in the first half. Johnson was
also credited with seven rebounds in the
half. The Akron, Ala.-native turned in
his fourth double-double of the season
with his team-high ten rebounds. UWF
grabbed its fourth lead of the first
frame at the 4:42 mark of the period.
The Argonauts took a slim two-point,
27-25 lead at the intermission.
The Blue and
Green’s Charles Bouie scorched the nets
in the second half, scoring 17 of his
game-high 19 points in the final
period. Bouie finished one rebound shy
of a double-double. As a team, UWF
turned in a 55 percent shooting night in
the second period. Kenny Holmes
registered eight points while Ryan Henry
and Deondre Boynton each added seven
points.
Senior guard
Michael Billings posted double figures
with 10 points. Chris Malone pitched in
nine points in the setback.
UWA
returns to the hardwood on Saturday,
Feb. 2, traveling to Montevallo. Tip
off is set for 7:30 p.m. The game will
