LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – Stan
Gill recorded a career-high 31 points, as the
University of West Alabama men’s basketball team
snapped a three-game, losing streak by defeating
the University of North Alabama, 79-69.
Gill led three Tigers
(6-9, 1-1 GSC) in double figures with Jared
Hembree scoring 17 points and Raymond Shaw
adding 14 points on the night.
UNA (8-9, 1-1 GSC)
was led by 15 points from Milton Nance. Thomas
Morris came off the bench to round out the
double figure scorers for the Lions with 14
points in the game.
The Tigers, who led
40-31 at the half, outscored UNA in the second
half to earn its first victory since December 6th
against Clark Atlanta.
The Lions would open
the second half on a 13-2 run to rally and take
its first lead since the 16:51 mark.
UNA would hold that
lead for just over two minutes, as the two teams
went on scoreless, but a trey from Hembree would
give UWA the lead back, 45-44, and the Tigers
never looked back reaching the double digit mark
with seven seconds remaining in the game.
West Ala returns to
action on, Tuesday, January 16th,
when the Tigers travel to West Georgia. Tip-off
is slated for 6:30 p.m. |
