Montevallo,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama
men’s basketball team nearly pulled off an
upset, but Montevallo stole one out, with an
83-75 victory over the Tigers in a Gulf South
Conference game Saturday at the Peoples Bank &
Trust Arena.
Raymond Shaw
scored 11 of his team-high 20 points in the
first half and also finished with nine rebounds.
Stan Gill added 17 points, while Joe Eatmon had
12.
West Alabama
(8-12 overall, 2-4 GSC) controlled the first few
minutes of the second half, but Montevallo
regrouped and took a 51-43 lead, forcing Reedy
to call timeout with 13:58 remaining. The Tigers
trimmed away at the lead and after a steal by
Michael Billings, Joe Eatmon drained a 3-pointer
to give the Tigers a 54-52 lead with 10 minutes
left.
The two teams
continued to trade the lead, before the Falcons
took a 70-61 advantage after a 3-pointer by No.
5 with 3:50 left. West Alabama used a 7-0 run,
capped by a pair of free throws by Gill. That
was as close as West Alabama would get.
Greg Brown
scored 16 of his game-high 30 points in the
first half, while Marcus Kennedy added 20 points
and 12 boards.
The Tigers
return home to play Concordia College 7:30 p.m.
on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at Pruitt Hall. |
