LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The
Eddie McCarter era at the University of West
Alabama will get underway at a familiar
place for McCarter – at UAB. The Tiger
basketball squad will take on the Green and
Gold Blazers in exhibition action at Bartow
Arena on Thursday, Nov. 1. Tip off is set
for 7 p.m.
McCarter, an alum of UAB and
served as the Director of Basketball
Operations on Mike Davis’s staff a year
ago. The Birmingham, Ala.-native brings 14
years of head coaching experience to the
Livingston campus after having coached at
the University of Texas at Arlington. It
will be a new look for the Red and White
Tigers with 11 new players on the roster
this season. The roster features three
players from Birmingham – Chris Malone
(Ramsay HS), Glenn Miles (West End) and
Brian Murphy (John Carroll Catholic HS).
The UAB contest is the first
of two exhibition games for UWA against
Division I schools. The Tigers square off
with former GSC foe and rival Troy on
Monday, Nov. 5. UAB is coming off a 15-16
2006-07 record and a eighth-place finish in
Conference USA. Head coach Mike Davis
returns seven starters from a year ago.
UWA opens the 2007-08 slate
on Saturday, Nov. 17, visiting Stillman
College in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The home opener
will be on Nov. 21 against Delta State.
