LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of
West Alabama men’s basketball team
toppled Southeastern Bible College out
of Birmingham, Ala., 90-36 on Friday
night at Pruitt Hall on the UWA campus.
The
Tigers (3-6) jumped out to a 10-point
advantage 12 minutes deep into the
opening half and closed out the period
with a 17-2 scoring run to take a 39-21
margin into the dressing room and cruise
to its largest margin of victory of the
2007-08 campaign. UWA connected on 49
percent from the field in the opening
frame while holding the Sabers (5-7) to
just 24 percent shooting. Senior
Michael Billings tallied 13 of his 18
points in the first half. The Albany,
Ga.-native also dished out four assists
in the contest.
UWA
continued the hot shooting in the second
half, scorching the nets with a 61
percent shooting clip. The Red and
White took advantage of 23 SBC miscues,
scoring 31 points off Saber turnovers.
The Tigers turned in a season-low nine
turnovers in the win, while dishing out
a season-best 19 assists.
Junior
Maurice Naylor led all scorers with 19
points and a game-high 11 rebounds in 28
minutes of action. Junior Brian Murphy
added 12 points in the affair along with
five assists.
John
Maul led the Sabers of SBC with 11
points in the setback.
UWA
will break from competition for a 10-day
period before suiting up at Clark
Atlanta on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Tip off is
set for 6:30 p.m. CST.
