LIVINGSTON, Ala. — In a winner
take all match up, the University of
West Alabama men’s basketball team will
take on in-state rival Montevallo with
the winner of the contest earning a
berth into the 2008 Gulf South
Conference Men’s Tournament in
Southaven, Miss. Tip off is set for 4
p.m.
The Tigers (10-17, 3-8 GSC) remained in
contention for the final spot from the
GSC East with a win Monday night at West
Florida and a loss by the UM Falcons
(11-15, 4-7) to Valdosta State. A UWA
win would give the tie-breaker to the
Red and White. A trip to the GSC
Tournament would be the first for the
men’s program since the 1997-98
campaign. The 10-team event gets
underway on Wednesday, March 5, at the
DeSoto Civic Center.
UWA will honor its four senior
basketball players prior to the
contest. Seniors Michael Billings,
Layton Knight, Abdoulaye N’diaye and
Taige Adderley will suit up for the
final time at Pruitt Hall.
UWA notched its first GSC win of the
season against UM with a 73-62 win on
the Falcons home floor. Billings led
all Tiger scorers with 20 points in the
affair, connecting on 6-of-8 from behind
the arc. Since the win at UM, UWA has
reeled off four wins and are shooting 46
percent from the field and draining 38
percent of its three-pointers.
The Falcons are led in scoring by
Terrill Humphrey, averaging 18 points
per contest. Tauras Dortch and Anthony
Brown post 11 and 10 points
