LIVINGSTON, Ala. —The
University of West Alabama men’s
basketball team dropped a 92-71 decision
to in-state foe Miles College on
Saturday at Pruitt Hall on the UWA
campus.
In an up tempo style
game, the visiting Golden Bears took
advantage of 28 UWA miscues. MC (2-1)
also finished the affair shooting 42
percent from the field and holding the
Tigers (1-2) to just 39 percent from the
field in the game. The Red and White
trailed 43-37 at the intermission, but
MC turned in a 49-point performance in
the final 20 minutes to earn the win.
Anthony Ward led all scorers with 19
points, connecting on 8-of-13 from the
field. Flawaan Flaggs posted 15 points
in the victory while Leon McKinney
finished with a double-double, carding
11 points and 11 rebounds. Reggie
Griffin dished out a game-high eight
assists.
Junior Kevin Johnson
led the Tigers with his second
double-double in the first three games
of the season. The Akron, Ala. native
and Shelton State Community College
transfer registered 17 points and pulled
down 15 rebounds. Johnson also had
three blocks and four assists in the
contest. Junior guard Brian Murphy
reached double figures with 14 points,
4-of-9 from the field and 6-of-12 from
the free throw line. Maurice Naylor
turned in 11 along with Abdoulaye
N’Diaye scoring 10.
Up
next for the Tigers is a two-day,
two-game road trip to face Arkansas at
Monticello on Monday, Nov. 26 and a tilt
against Southern Arkansas on Tuesday.
Tip for the UAM contest is set for 6
p.m. Following the trek to Arkansas,
UWA will participate in the Valdosta
State Classic to close out the month of
November.
