LIVINGSTON --
Riding a current two-game winning
streak, the University of West
Alabama men's basketball squad
returns to action after a holiday
break, welcoming Henderson State to
Pruitt Hall in a 2 p.m. contest on
the UWA campus.
The Tigers closed
out the pre-Christmas slate by
claiming wins over Southeastern
Bible College and Clark Atlanta
before breaking for the holiday. The
Red and White, 4-6 overall, have won
three out of the previous four games
after snapping a five-game losing
skid against Lynn back on Dec. 1.
The Reddies of HSU enter Saturday's
affair with a 1-9 record on the
season. In their last outing, the
Reddies dropped a 76-53 decision to
Southern Illinois Edwardsville.
The Tigers are
led by junior forward Kevin Johnson
in both scoring and rebounding. The
Akron, Ala.-native is one rebound
shy of averaging a double-double,
posting 9.1 boards and tallying 11.5
points per contest. UWA sports three
others in double figure scoring -
Maurice Naylor (10 points), Brian
Murphy (11 points) and Bobby Clark
(11 points).
Saturday's
UWA-HSU encounter will be the eighth
meeting between the two Gulf South
Conference foes. The Tigers have won
four the of previous seven meetings
while HSU won last year's contest
57-49.
UWA will open
2008 with a match up against
Arkansas at Monticello on Thursday,
Jan. 3 at Pruitt Hall. Tip off is
set for 6 p.m.
