LIVINGSTON, Ala. —
The University of West Alabama men's
basketball team will open the 2008
portion of the schedule hosting the Boll
Weevils of Arkansas at Monticello on
Thursday, Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. in Pruitt
Hall. The game will be the second of a
day-night doubleheader with the UWA
women's team as the ladies welcome
nationally ranked Delta State to campus.
The Tigers will look
to avenge a four-point loss to UAM
earlier in the season on the Green and
White's home floor. In the 57-53
setback, the Red and White were led by
junior Brian Murphy's game-high 19 point
performance. Junior Kevin Johnson posted
a double-double with 10 points and 12
rebounds in the contest. UAM's Derek
Easter came off the bench to lead the
Boll Weevil charge with 14 points.
UWA dropped a 74-59
decision to Henderson State last
Saturday to close out 2007. Senior guard
Layton Knight led all Tiger scorers with
15 points off the bench. Senior Chris
Malone and Johnson each posted double
figures in the scoring column. UAM (6-3)
enters the non-conference affair riding
a three-game winning streak, topping
LeMoyne-Owen, Blue Mountain and Clayton
State.
The Red and White
will travel to Cleveland, Miss. on
Saturday, Jan. 5, to face Delta State at
4 p.m. The DSU game will be the final
tune up before the Tigers embark on the
Gulf South Conference campaign.
