BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
–
University of West Alabama’s Stan Gill was
selected to the Preseason Gulf South Conference
Eastern Division team by the head coaches of the
GSC.
Gill, who
averaged a double-double last season for UWA, is
one of eight players returning for Rick Reedy’s
2006-07 squad. Gill, a native of Los Angeles,
was selected First Team All-GSC last season.
The senior,
forward is joined by Jason Smith of UAH, Greg
Brown and Marcus Kennedy of Montevallo, Mike
Crain from Valdosta State and Marcus Grant of
West Florida.
The Tiger
basketball team was selected seventh in the
Eastern Division, by the GSC coaches, receiving
eight votes.
UWA returns
eight players from last season’s team to join
Gill. Also returning to Reedy’s roster is Joe
Eatmon, Raymond Shaw, Joesph Childers, Jared
Hembree, K’Shaun Daley, Layton Knight and Willie
Moore.
Six new faces
are also added to the 2006-07 Tigers, including
Mike Bentley, Jay Hembree, Jenario Bunton,
Michael Billings, Patrick Winters and Abdoulaye
N’diaye.
West Alabama
opens in exhibition play Wednesday, November 1,
as the Tigers travel to UAB for a 7:00 p.m.
tip-off against the Blazers at Bartow Arena. The
Tigers open the regular-season Wednesday,
November 15 against Southern of New Orleans at
Pruitt Hall.
