WACO, Texas – University of
West Alabama place-kicker Mitch Warfield was named to
the 2006 American Football Coaches Association Division
II Coaches’ All-America Team, announced Wednesday by the
AFCA.
Warfield, who earned first-team
All-GSC honors, went 10-of-14 in field goals this season
for the Tigers, while also connecting on all 37 PAT
attempts for UWA.
The Bay Minette, Ala., native is
the first Tiger since John Sedely (1997) to be selected
to the AFCA All-American team. Warfield, who led the
Tigers in scoring, is the first UWA All-American since
2004, when Marcus Ross was named to the
CollegeSportsReport.com Fourth Team.
Warfield, a sophomore at UWA, joins
25 Division II football players from across the country
that received the AFCA honor.
The AFCA All-American team, which
has been selected every year since 1945, is chosen by
three head coaches from each of the AFCA’s nine
districts and then ranked by the districts. |
