LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
The University of West Alabama football team returns to
action for its second consecutive Gulf South Conference
contest, as the Tigers host the University of Arkansas
at Monticello in the GSC-TV Game of the Week at Tiger
Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
This will mark the 20th
meeting in the series that began in 1962; a contest in
which the Tigers claimed a 21-6 victory in Demopolis,
Ala. The series has been played in four different
locations, three of which, including Livingston, are
located in the State of Alabama.
In the last 12 meetings,
the two schools are deadlocked with six wins each. UWA
has claimed three outings in Livingston and three in
Monticello with UAM equaling the mark. A season ago, UWA
pulled within one win of tying the series, as the Tigers
picked up their sixth win of the 2006 campaign in
Monticello, 37-14. The win gave UWA its first winning
season since 1992.
Both teams enter with
highly-touted running attacks. UAM posts the 10th
best rushing attack in the nation, while UWA ranks 23rd.
John L. Williams leads
the way for the top ranked rushing team in the
conference, as he put together a 31-carry, 275-yard
performance to lead the Boll Weevils in a
35-32 overtime
win at West Georgia last weekend. Williams’ leads the
GSC in rushing yards (125.1) and scoring (nine
touchdowns).
UWA’s ground and pound
style of offense is led by Cole Mason, who is ranked
fourth in the conference with just under 90-yards per
game and eight touchdowns, which ranks fifth in the GSC.
The televised contest
will be aired on Comcast Sports Southeast at 7:05 p.m.
The game can be heard on WSLY-Gospel Hits, Y-104.9 FM
and at athletics.uwa.edu. |
