VALDOSTA, Ga. –
The University of West Alabama
football team shoved its only score
across the goal line with 1:40 remaining
to play in the game to fall 35-6 at
Valdosta State on Saturday, Sept. 26.
UWA falls to 3-2 on the season and 1-2
in Gulf South Conference play. VSU
improved to 2-2 and 2-1 in the GSC.
Roosevelt Ross
rushed the Tiger TD in from five yards
out. Ross, a Lowell, Fla.-native, became
the Red and White’s first 100-yard
runner of the season with 102 yards on
the ground.
VSU, which racked
up 488 yards of total offense, grabbed
its first points of the contest on a
Ronnye Nelson two yard run. The score
capped a 10 play, 69 yard drive that
eliminated 2:15 off the clock. Kellen
Lewis put the Blazers up 14-0 on a two
yard rush that was set up by a Brock
Sharp blocked punt. Lewis and Nelson
each added one more rushing TD before
Lewis found Cedric Jones from 27 yards
out to conclude the VSU scoring.
Eric Hendricks
finished the night as the Tigers’
leading tackler with 11 stops. Hendricks
added two forced fumbles, a tackle for
loss and one sack to his defensive
totals.
West Alabama
returns to Tiger Stadium on Saturday,
Oct. 3 to face Lambuth in the first of a
three-game homestand. Kickoff has been
rescheduled for 4:00 p.m. The original
start was slated for 6:00 p.m. The game
