LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The University of West
Alabama football returns to Gulf
South Conference action on Saturday,
Oct. 31 as UWA (5-4, 3-3 GSC) hosts
Ouachita Baptist for Homecoming
2009. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
The game will be broadcasted on FOX

This is the 7th
meeting in the series between West
Alabama and Ouachita Baptist with
OBU leading the series 5-1. OBU
claimed the last meeting in the
series, a 45-43 triple overtime
victory at A. U. Field last season.
The first meeting in the series came
on Dec. 21, 1968 as OBU and UWA
squared off in Dothan, Ala. in the
Peanut Bowl. OBU picked up the
victory 39-6. The two teams
rekindled the series in 2000 with
UWA claiming a 27-22 win on Oct. 28
in Arkadelphia. Since 2000, OBU has
claimed the last four outings in the
series.
UWA enters the
contest after having a two-game win
streak snapped in a 10-9 loss at
West Georgia. The Red and White
posted 426 yards of total offense to
UWG’s 250 total yards, but four
turnovers helped seal the fate of
the Tigers. The win gave the Red and
Blue Wolves their first win in 22
tries.
OBU looks to
snap a three-game, GSC losing streak
as it enters Saturday’s contest. The
Purple and Gold’s last conference
win came on Sept. 26 ... a 38-14
win over Delta State. OBU picked up
its first win since the win over the
Statesmen last weekend as Ouachita’s
Chad Emmons knocked a pass away from
quarterback Steven Gachette to John
Austin on the two-yard line with no
time remaining to preserve the 14-10
non-conference home victory over
Southwest Baptist.
West Alabama
returns to action on Saturday, Nov.
7 as the Tigers travel to Florence,
Ala. to face the North Alabama Lions
in the regular season finale.
Kickoff at Braly Municipal Stadium
is slated for 6:00 p.m. The game
will be broadcasted on FOX Sports
104.9-FM and at athletics.uwa.edu.
