LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
The University of West Alabama
football team looks to snap a
three-game losing streak as UWA
(3-3, 1-2 Gulf South Conference)
hosts No. 22 Delta State on
Saturday, Oct. 10. Kickoff is slated
for 6:00 p.m. The game will be aired
on FOX Sports, WSLY 104.9-FM and at
athletics.uwa.edu. UWA will also
provide a live video stream at
athletics.uwa.edu courtesy of the B2
Network.
The game
against Delta State is the second in
a season-long, three-game homestand.
The Tigers and Statesmen (3-2, 2-1
GSC) will be meeting for the 54th
time in series history as DSU holds
a 32-18-3 lead in the series
standings, including a 21-14 win at
Parker Field-McCool Stadium last
season. The Red and White recorded
its last win in the series in 2002,
a 30-24 decision in Cleveland, Miss.
The last victory for the Tigers in
Livingston came by way of a 60-55
outing in 1993 which currently
stands as the most combined points
in UWA history.
UWA has been
outscored 131-76 in its last three
outings. UWA head coach Bobby
Wallace, who is 8-5 vs. Delta State
all-time, seeks his 97th win at a
Gulf South Conference school. The 96
wins are second in GSC history
behind former Mississippi College
head coach John M. Williams. UWA
redshirt freshman quarterback Gary
Johnston led the Tigers in their
58-40 loss to NAIA member Lambuth.
In his first career start, Johnston
passed for 305 yards and ran for 111
yards along with two touchdowns. The
century mark rushing night for the
Gulf Shores, Ala.-native was just
the second 100-yard rusher for UWA
this season.
Delta State
cracked the top 10 in the first NCAA
Super Regional Two Poll at No. 7 and
also moved up three spots in the
AFCA Top 25 Poll to No. 22.
Lardester Hicks-Green leads DSU into
Tigers Stadium. Hicks-Green was
tabbed GSC Defensive Player of the
Week after his school-record 20
tackle performance DSU’s 31-23
victory over Valdosta State in the
GSC-TV Live Game of the Week. Delta
State has posted an 86-97-5 record
against the state of Alabama. Delta
State is outscoring the opposition
111-52 in the first half this
season.
West Alabama
concludes the homestand on Saturday,
Oct. 17 against the University of
Arkansas at Monticello. Kickoff is
set for 6:00 p.m.
