HATTIESBURG, Miss. —
The University of West Alabama Men’s Cross Country
team opened 2007 season by claiming the 27th
Annual University of Southern Mississippi Cross
Country Invitational on Friday in Hattiesburg, Miss.
UWA’s Austin Enriquez was the
meet’s top-collegiate finisher with a time of 22
minutes, 24.00 seconds to claim second-place
overall. The Tigers finished atop the team standing
with 53 points. The Red and White posted six
individuals in the top-25. The season-opening meet
included Xavier (La.) University, Millsaps College,
Jackson State University, Spring Hill College,
Mississippi College, Belhaven College, Mobile,
Mississippi Valley State and Loyola of New Orleans.
On the women’s side, UWA’s Amanda
Fuentes was the team’s top-finisher, recording a
time of 23:01.21 in the 4K event. The Lady Tigers
tallied 265 points in the USM-hosted event. Tulane
University won the team title.
Both teams return to action on
Friday, Sept. 14, competing in the Crimson Classic
hosted by the University of Alabama.
