LIVINGSTON, Ala. — University
of West Alabama freshman Austin Enriquez has
been named the Gulf South Conference Runner of
the Week, announced by the conference office on
Wednesday.
Enriquez, was the
top collegiate finisher at the University of
Southern Mississippi
Invitational last Friday. Competing in his
first-ever collegiate meet, the Fayetteville, Ga-native
finished the four-mile course with a time of 22
minutes, 24.00 seconds. Enriquez and the field
battled a course that sustained rain prior to
the running of the event. As a team, UWA
claimed team honors at the USM-hosted event.
The meet featured Xavier (La.) University,
Millsaps College, Jackson State University,
Spring Hill College, Mississippi College,
Belhaven College, Mobile, Mississippi Valley
State and Loyola of New Orleans.
The UWA men’s team
was also tabbed ninth in the United States Track
and Field and Cross Country Association’s
Division II Regional rankings, released this
week by the organization. The Red and White
join GSC members Harding, Alabama-Huntsville,
West Florida, Christian Brothers and West
Georgia in the South Region listing.
The Tigers return
to action on Friday, Sept. 14, competing in the
Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The women’s
5K is set for 5 p.m. followed by the men’s 8K at
5:30 at the Harry Pritchard Running Park.
