UWA Cross Country Squad Travels To Crimson Classic

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — On the heels of a season-opening meet win a week ago the men’s squad, the University of West Alabama cross country teams will compete Friday, Sept. 14 in the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The University of Alabama-hosted event at the Harry Pritchard Running Park will get underway with the women’s 5K at 5 p.m. followed by the men’s 8K race at 5:30 p.m. CST.  This year marks the 19th running of the Crimson Classic.

The men’s squad claimed the team title last week at the University of Southern Mississippi Invitational.  UWA’s Austin Enriquez was tabbed the Gulf South Conference Male Runner of the Week after his 22 minute, 24.00 second performance at the USM meet.  He was the top collegiate finisher in the field.  The Tigers also had three other individuals finishing in the top-20.  Freshmen Jeremy Wilson and Jonathan Sellers placed 11th and 14th respectively while Daniel Ross finished 19th.

“We are excited about the win on the men’s side last week,” said head coach Don Medeiros.”  We hope to carry that momentum into this meet at Alabama.”

Joining UWA at the meet will be Alabama State, Jacksonville State, LSU, Mississippi State, Nicholls State, North Alabama, Samford and Troy.

After the Crimson Classic, the Red and White will participate in the Mississippi State Invitational on Sept. 22.
