TAMPA, Fla. – The University of West
Alabama cross country team finished the 2009
season strong at the NCAA South Regional, as
the UWA turned in top-15 finishes. The
Tiger women placed ninth while the UWA men
posted a 12th-place finish.
On the
women’s side, UWA’s Carolyn Mancuso finished
15th after clocking a time of 23
minutes, 15 seconds in the 5K event.
Mancuso, who garnered First Team All-Gulf
South Conference honors at the GSC
Championship, was UWA’s top finisher.
Polina Babkina crossed the finish line in
24:10 to place 27th in the
individual standings. Jessica Gonzalez and
Kelli Hartley posted times of 25:25 (43rd)
and 25:35 respectively.
The
Tiger men were paced by Jonathan Sellers,
who capped off the season with a mark of
33:31 and a 17th-place finish.
Austin Enriquez finished 45th
with a time of 34:52. Camden Holmes clocked
a time of 35:59 (67th). Spencer
Gray and Peter Kazery rounded out the
scoring for UWA with times of 36:04 and
36:30 respectively.
Gulf South Conference
member Harding claimed the top spot on the
men’s side followed by Florida Southern
College. Both teams will represent the
region in the NCAA Championship. Host-Tampa
and Harding advance on the women’s side.
