BIRMINGHAM,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama’s
Ashton Washington was named Gulf South
Conference East Division Player of the Week for
her accomplishments in the West Florida Holiday
Classic, as announced by the conference office
on Wednesday afternoon.
Washington
helped the Tigers (4-7) to a 1-1 record in the
tournament, posting double figures in both
contests, including a double-double against the
University of Arkansas at Monticello. The
Lexington, Miss.-native posted 13 points and 12
rebounds against the Cotton Blossoms in a 75-63
win to open the classic. The senior then posted
a team-leading 11 points in a 62-59 setback
against Henderson State. The double digit
performance against the Lady Reddies was tied
for best on the team with Danielle Baldwin.
The Pre-Season
All-GSC honoree is leading the Red and White
with 14.9 points a contest and 9.3 rebounds this
season. Washington is currently ranked second in
rebounds and third in scoring in the conference.
Washington
becomes the second Tiger to be named GSC East
Division Player of the Week, as fellow senior
Jessica Thompson received the honor the first
week of the season. This marks the third time in
her career that Washington has received the
honor.
West Alabama
returns to action on Thursday, January 3rd,
as the Tigers host second ranked Delta State at
2 p.m. at Pruitt Hall. |
