LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
University of West Alabama women’s basketball
coach Amanda Marks has announced the signing of
five student-athletes for the upcoming 2007-08
season, joining early signee Hannah Phillips of
Kingwood Christian Academy.
Valerie Harris, Omeshia Frost, Danielle Baldwin
and Dominique Whitfield make their way to UWA
from the Mississippi JUCO ranks, as Jordana
Crowdis will join from Wallace Community College
in Dothan, Ala.
Harris, a 5’8, forward from Lake, Miss., played
for Billy Smith at East Central (MS)
Community College where she averaged 19.8
points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
During her stint with the Warriors she was named 1st
Team All-State and 1st Team
All-Region while also making the Region XXIII
All-Tournament team and being named to the
Mississippi JUCO All-Star Team.
Frost,
a 5’8, guard from Lawrenceville, Ga., played at
Coahoma (MS) Community College for Ira Peterson,
averaging 19.3 points, 6 rebounds and 4.1
assists which earned her a spot on the Mississippi JUCO All Star Team.
Baldwin, a native of Jackson, Miss., played
point guard at East Mississippi Community
College for Sharon Thompson. The Mississippi
JUCO All-Star averaged 16 points, 3.7 rebounds,
3.2 assists and 2.4 steals while with the Lions.
Whitfield, a 5’10, forward from
Crystal Springs, Miss., played for Gwyn Young at
Copiah-Lincoln (MS) Community College where she
averaged 5.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
She helped guide the Lady Wolves to a 30-5
record along with the South Division
Championship, a State Runner-up finish and the Region
XXIII Championship. CLCC finished sixth in the
NJCAA National Tournament.
Crowdis rounds outs the signees for UWA. A 6’0,
forward from Blakely, Ga. joins the Tigers
after spending time at
Wallace (AL) Community College in Dothan, where
she played
softball. Averaging 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4
blocks per game, Crowdis helped guide Early
County (GA) High School to the 2A State
Championship in 2003 and to the State Final Four
in 2004 and 2005.
An early signee from Alabaster, Ala., Phillips, finished
her prep career as the A
Alabama Independent School Association's all-time leading scorer. She was a Miss
Basketball Award finalist in the state, helping
the Lady Lions to the state title and passing
the 3,000 point mark. |
