UWA Returns to Hardwood at West Florida Holiday Classic

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women’s basketball team returns to action after an 11-day holiday break to take part in the University of West Florida Holiday Classic in Pensacola, Fla. on Saturday, December 29th. The Tigers (3-6) will face the University of Arkansas at Monticello in a 12 p.m. contest.

UWA, which closed out the pre-holiday slate at the Lloyd Clark Classic in Cleveland, Miss., falling to North Georgia 67-57 at Walter Sillers Coliseum, concludes the UWF hosted tournament on Sunday, December 30 against Henderson State in a 12 p.m. tip-off.

The Red and White is led by Ashton Washington, a Pre-Season All-Gulf South Conference East Division selection. The Lexington, Miss.-native is averaging 15.1 points and nine rebounds a contest this season. The 15 points ranks sixth in the conference with the boards placing her in second in the GSC.

Jessica Thompson, a native of Valhermoso Springs, Ala., is the other Tiger in double figures scoring with 13.4 points a night. Thompson is shooting 45.6-percent from behind the arc to pace UWA, which is fourth best in the conference.

Following the trip to Pensacola, Fla., West Alabama returns to Pruitt Hall on Thursday, January 3rd to host nationally ranked Delta State in a 2 p.m. tip-off.
