FLORENCE,
Ala. – An early run by North Alabama led the
Lions to a 78-61 win over the University of West
Alabama Saturday afternoon in Flowers Hall.
West Alabama
(16-7, 3-4 GSC) was led by two Tigers off the
bench. Jessica Thompson added 15 points and
Kotreece Bender supplied 11 points. Ashton
Washington led UWA on the boards with seven
rebounds.
Two Lions
posted 20 points each in the contest, as Amber
Rutherford posted 22 points, while pulling down
11 rebounds. Chelsey Malone tallied 20 points
for UNA, as Tandra Inmon supplied 13 points.
Jameica York also pulled down a team-leading 11
rebounds.
UWA opened the
game scoring the first four points of the
contest, but a 31-6 run by UNA opened up a 31-10
lead for the Lions with six minutes remaining in
the first half.
The Tigers
would score 11 points the remainder of the half
to UNA’s 10 points, but the Lions would head in
at the intermission up 41-21.
UNA reached
its largest lead of the game, 24 points, with
seven minutes to go in the contest. UWA would
chip away at the Lion lead, cutting the deficit
as close as 14 points, but could never get under
the double digit deficit.
West Alabama
returns to action on Monday, February 12th,
as the Tigers will travel to UAH for a GSC
contest with the Chargers. Tip-off is scheduled
for 5:30 p.m.
