LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama
women’s basketball team returns to the hardwood,
as the Tigers (5-11, 1-1 Gulf South Conference)
prepare to tangle with in-state and GSC East
Division rival North Alabama (8-8, 2-1 GSC) at
UNA’s Flowers Hall on Monday, January 21st.
Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and will be carried on
Y-104.9-FM.
After starting
conference play with a 76-74 overtime win over
the University of Alabama in Huntsville, the Red
and White’s conference record was evened up by
West Georgia in a 91-71 setback at Pruitt Hall.
Ashton
Washington and Jessica Thompson lead the way for
the Tigers, each averaging double figures in
scoring. Washington, a Lexington, Miss.-native,
is tops in the scoring column with 14.6 points a
contest to go along with her team-leading nine
rebounds, while Thompson, a native of Valhermoso
Springs, Ala., is second in scoring with 12.7
points an outing. Both Washington and Thompson
averaged 12 points in UWA’s opening weekend of
conference action.
UNA is paced
by Amber Rutherford, who is leading the Lions
with 16.4 points a contest and 6.7 rebounds per
game. The Lions enter the contest off a 71-60
victory over Montevallo on Saturday, January 19th,
as Shay Ashford led the UNA charge with 17
points and 10 rebounds.
After the UNA
contest, West Alabama will travel to Valdosta,
Ga. on Saturday, January 25th to take
on Valdosta State in a 5 p.m. tip-off. |
