LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama
women’s basketball team clinched the No. 3 seed
in the Gulf South Conference Tournament by
downing Montevallo, 73-60.
The Tigers
(19-8, 7-5 GSC), who honored four seniors before
the game, were led by 21 points from senior,
Wennica Foster. Jessica Thompson added 13
points, as senior Brandi Humphrey tallied 11
points to close out the double figure producers
for UWA.
Stefanie
Durant led the Lady Falcons (14-13, 6-6 GSC)
with 16 points. Veronica Jackson totaled 12, as
Malissa Harris supplied 10 points for UM.
The Tigers led
by nine points at the half and opened the second
half on a 7-1 run to cruise to the 13-point win.
UWA pushed out to its largest lead of the game,
19 points, on two different occasions in the in
the contest.
UWA opened on
a 4-2 run, but a trey from Durant with 17:56
remaining in the first half, gave the Lady
Falcons its first and only lead of the game. The
Tigers would go on an 11-2 run, capped off on a
jumper from senior Jamie Walker over the next
four minutes to pull ahead 15-7 and never looked
back.
West Alabama
will play on Thursday, March 1st, as
the Tigers will face Western Division, 2-seed
Arkansas Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30
p.m. |
