LIVINGSTON,
Ala. -- The
University of West Alabama women’s basketball
team was voted eighth in the latest edition NCAA
Division II South Regional Poll.
After going 1-1 on
the week, UWA (18-8, 6-5 Gulf South Conference)
dropped back one spot in the fifth poll of the
season.
Four schools from
Gulf South Conference join the Tigers in the
poll. Delta State, the highest ranked from the
GSC, is No. 2, followed by Arkansas Tech in
fourth and Valdosta State in fifth and Harding
sits in seventh.
Florida Gulf Coast,
with an overall record of 22-0, was voted the
top team in the region joined by Florida Tech in
third, Tampa in sixth, Rollins is ninth and
newcomer Fort Valley State in 10th.
The Tigers, who have
won six of their last eight contests, clinched a
spot in the GSC Tournament with a 76-59 win at
West Florida this past Monday night.
West Alabama closes
out the regular-season on Saturday, February 24th,
as the Tigers play host to GSC Eastern Division
and in-state rival Montevallo. Tip-off is slated
for 5:30 p.m.
