LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama
women’s basketball team picked up its second
consecutive win, by toppling Georgia
Southwestern 76-45 at Pruitt Hall on Wednesday
evening, closing out the 2007 home slate.
Ashton
Washington led the Tigers (3-4) with 17 points,
while Danielle Baldwin tallied 12 and Dominique
Whitfield added 10 points. Jessica Thompson,
Amber Walker and Jenni Thomley each paced the
Red and White on the board with seven rebounds
each.
Georgia
Southwestern (1-5) was led by Brittany Reynolds
with 11 points and five rebounds on the night
for the Hurricanes.
UWA, which
never trailed in the contest, led by 22 points
at the break, but GSU opened the second half on
a 5-2 run to cut the lead to 44-27 one minute
into the second stanza. The Tigers answered with
an 8-2 run, capped by five points from
Washington and three from Thompson, swinging the
lead to 23 points, 52-29 with 15:57 remaining in
the contest.
The Red and
White continued to add to its lead the remainder
of the contest, never looking back. The Tigers
reached their largest lead of the night, 31
points, on a layup by Valerie Harris at the
10:39 mark.
GSU nibbled at
the deficit, getting within 24 points with 3:16
remaining, but UWA finished the contest on a 6-0
run to clinch a 31 point victory over the
Hurricanes.
West Alabama
concludes the pre-holiday slate, as the Tigers
travel to the Lloyd Clark Classic in Cleveland,
Miss. UWA will face host Delta State on Monday,
December 17th at 6 p.m. The Tigers
wrap up the tournament on Tuesday, December 18th
against North Georgia. Tip-off is scheduled for
4 p.m. |
