CLEVELAND,
Miss. – The University of West Alabama
women’s basketball team fell to second ranked
Delta State 67-45 in the Lloyd Clark Classic at
Walter Sillers Coliseum on Monday evening. The
Tigers (3-5) had a tough night shooting,
connecting on only 25-percent of their shots, as DSU shot 54.9 on the night.
Ashton
Washington led the way for the Red and White
with 16 points and seven rebounds. Irimar
Hernandez added seven points for UWA with Jenni
Thomley supplying six points on the night.
Lakira Boyd
paced the Lady Statesmen with 14 points. Jessica
Boyd tallied 13 while Jennifer Rushing supplied
11 points. Lamaesha McAdory pulled down seven
boards to lead DSU.
Trailing 34-20
at the break, UWA managed to cut into the DSU
lead in the opening minutes of the second
stanza. A three-point play by Danielle Baldwin
at the 13:42 mark narrowed the Lady Statesmen
margin to nine points. It was the first time
that UWA had been within single digits since the
final 1:10 of the first half.
DSU answered
with an 8-0 run, pushing the lead out to 17
points. The Green and White never looked back,
holding the double digit lead the remainder of
the contest.
UWA had almost
10 minutes of scoreless basketball in the first
half, as the Lady Statesmen pushed out to a 14
point advantage at the break.
West Alabama
returns to action on Tuesday, December 18th,
as the Tigers face North Georgia on the second
day of the Lloyd Clark Classic. Tip-off is set
for 4 p.m. |
