LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama
women’s basketball team will face the University
of Alabama on Wednesday, October 31 in an
exhibition at Coleman Coliseum. Tip-off is
scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
UWA enters the
contest off a 19-9 season that placed them in
the Gulf South Conference Tournament a year ago.
Marks’ squad
is led by 2007 Pre-Season GSC East Division
First Team selection Ashton Washington.
Washington, a native of Lexington, Miss., was
named to the GSC East Division First Team last
season while leading the Tigers in scoring (12.0
ppg) and rebounding (9.4 rpg) during her junior
campaign.
The 2007
women’s basketball team will see a mixture of
returning players along with newcomers to the
program. Six letter winners return for the
season, along with six new faces. Seniors
Jessica Thompson, Ayonna Procter and Irimar
Hernandez join Washington with sophomores Jenni
Thomley and Amber Walker rounding out the
returning players.
Four
Mississippi JUCO players make up a majority of
the newcomers to the team. Omeshia Frost,
Valerie Harris, Danielle Baldwin and Dominique
Whitfield all made their way to Livingston and
are joined by sophomore Jordana Crowdis and
freshman Hannah Phillips.
West Alabama
will open the regular-season on Friday, November
16, when the Tigers travel to Montevallo, Ala.
for the UM Coca-Cola Classic. UWA will open the
tournament against Auburn University at
Montgomery. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. |
