LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama
women’s basketball team will look to pick up its
first win of the 2007-2008 campaign, as the
Tigers host Auburn Montgomery on Saturday,
November 24 at 2:00 p.m.
UWA (0-2) will
face the Lady Senators for the second time this
season at Pruitt Hall. AUM edged the Red and
White, 61-59, in the Tigers season opener on the
first day of the UM Coca-Cola Classic in
Montevallo’s People’s Bank and Trust Arena.
The Tigers are
led by Pre-Season All-Gulf South Conference East
Division selection Ashton Washington and
reigning GSC East Division Player of the Week
Jessica Thompson. The Valhermoso Springs,
Ala.-native, Thompson, paces UWA averaging 26.5
points a game, which is tops in the GSC.
Washington, a Lexington, Miss-native, leads the
way in rebounds, averaging eight a contest, and
assists with 5.5 an outing.
The Red and
White looks to extend its home game, win streak
against AUM. The Tigers finished the previous
season winning their final four games at Pruitt
Hall. UWA went 12-2 on its home floor a season
ago, posting an 8-0 record against
non-conference opponents. UWA will also look to
claim its fifth consecutive, home opener under
seventh-year head coach Amanda Marks. Since
Marks’ arrival in 2000-2001, the Tigers have
gone 5-1 in home openers.
Following
Saturday’s home opener, West Alabama will travel
to Pulaski, Tenn. on Tuesday, November 27 to
face Martin Methodist in a 6:00 p.m. tip-off. |
