LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 19th-ranked
University of West Alabama baseball
picked up its fourth Gulf South
Conference series win of the season, as
the Tigers (37-9, 10-5 GSC) downed North
Alabama 8-5 at Tartt Field on Sunday
afternoon. The win secures a spot in the
GSC Baseball Tournament in Millington,
Tenn. for UWA, its fifth consecutive
trip.
Brandon Dill, who was one of 10 seniors
honored before the game, got the win, as
he improved to 8-0 on the season. The
Columbus, Miss.-native pitched seven
innings in the win with a career-high
tying nine strikeouts.
UWA
opened the scoring in the third inning,
as Rob Dahlberg singled to right field
to score Jake DeRoy. One batter later,
Nick Wheeler singled to left field,
plating Dahlberg and Jeremy Finney.
Wheeler scored on a balk to round out
the inning, giving UWA a 4-0 lead.
UNA
(26-20, 6-9) narrowed the margin in the
fourth inning, as Josh Graham hit a
three-run homerun to left field.
The
Tigers added four more runs in the sixth
inning to push the lead out to 8-3.
Chris Ransburgh hit his fourth homer of
the season, a two-run blast to get
things started in the inning for the Red
and White, scoring Matt Busbee. Two
batters later, Dahlberg singled to right
center to score DeRoy, as Dahlberg later
scored on a Wheeler singled to left
field.
The
Lions totaled two runs the remainder of
the way, but could not catch the Tigers.
West
Alabama returns to action on Wednesday,
April 23, as the Tigers close out the
home regular season in a doubleheader
against Stillman College. The games can
