#19 UWA Claims Series Against North Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 19th-ranked University of West Alabama baseball picked up its fourth Gulf South Conference series win of the season, as the Tigers (37-9, 10-5 GSC) downed North Alabama 8-5 at Tartt Field on Sunday afternoon. The win secures a spot in the GSC Baseball Tournament in Millington, Tenn. for UWA, its fifth consecutive trip.

Brandon Dill, who was one of 10 seniors honored before the game, got the win, as he improved to 8-0 on the season. The Columbus, Miss.-native pitched seven innings in the win with a career-high tying nine strikeouts.

UWA opened the scoring in the third inning, as Rob Dahlberg singled to right field to score Jake DeRoy. One batter later, Nick Wheeler singled to left field, plating Dahlberg and Jeremy Finney. Wheeler scored on a balk to round out the inning, giving UWA a 4-0 lead.

UNA (26-20, 6-9) narrowed the margin in the fourth inning, as Josh Graham hit a three-run homerun to left field.

The Tigers added four more runs in the sixth inning to push the lead out to 8-3. Chris Ransburgh hit his fourth homer of the season, a two-run blast to get things started in the inning for the Red and White, scoring Matt Busbee. Two batters later, Dahlberg singled to right center to score DeRoy, as Dahlberg later scored on a Wheeler singled to left field.

The Lions totaled two runs the remainder of the way, but could not catch the Tigers.

West Alabama returns to action on Wednesday, April 23, as the Tigers close out the home regular season in a doubleheader against Stillman College. The games can be followed via live stats at athletics.uwa.edu.
