#19 Tigers to Host North Alabama in GSC Action

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 19th-ranked University of West Alabama baseball team returns to action on Saturday, April 19, as the Tigers (35-8, 8-4 Gulf South Conference) host in-state and region foe North Alabama in a doubleheader. UWA enters the contest ranked second in the NCAA Division II South Central Region. The series will be aired on Y-104.9-FM and athletics.uwa.edu.

UWA and UNA have met 121 times entering the weekend series with the Lions holding a 64-55-2 record, but the Tigers have claimed six of the last 10 outings between the two in-state institutions, including the last two to claim the series last season. Each team enters looking for a berth in the 2008 GSC Baseball Tournament in Millington, Tenn. with two wins grabbing a spot for the Tigers.

The Red and White are riding a six-game win streak heading into the contest with UNA. The Tigers extended its streak on Wednesday, April 16 with a 9-6 win over William Carey. The win streak dates back to April 2 with a 6-3 win at Auburn Montgomery.

UNA (25-17, 5-7 GSC) claimed wins in its last two outings, turning back Martin Methodist on Tuesday and pulling off a come-from-behind victory over Lambuth on Wednesday, both coming in Florence. This weekend marks the final road games for the Lions, who are 3-8 away from Lane Field, this season.

The UNA series concludes on Sunday, April 20, with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch. Sunday is also Senior Day on the Livingston campus, as UWA will honor its 10 seniors with a ceremony beginning at 12:50 p.m.
