LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 19th-ranked
University of West Alabama baseball team
returns to action on Saturday, April 19, as
the Tigers (35-8, 8-4 Gulf South Conference)
host in-state and region foe North Alabama
in a doubleheader. UWA enters the contest
ranked second in the NCAA Division II South
Central Region. The series will be aired on
Y-104.9-FM and athletics.uwa.edu.
UWA and
UNA have met 121 times entering the weekend
series with the Lions holding a 64-55-2
record, but the Tigers have claimed six of
the last 10 outings between the two in-state
institutions, including the last two to
claim the series last season. Each team
enters looking for a berth in the 2008 GSC
Baseball Tournament in Millington, Tenn.
with two wins grabbing a spot for the
Tigers.
The Red
and White are riding a six-game win streak
heading into the contest with UNA. The
Tigers extended its streak on Wednesday,
April 16 with a 9-6 win over William Carey.
The win streak dates back to April 2 with a
6-3 win at Auburn Montgomery.
UNA
(25-17, 5-7 GSC) claimed wins in its last
two outings, turning back Martin Methodist
on Tuesday and pulling off a
come-from-behind victory over Lambuth on
Wednesday, both coming in Florence. This
weekend marks the final road games for the
Lions, who are 3-8 away from Lane Field,
this season.
The UNA
series concludes on Sunday, April 20, with a
1:00 p.m. first pitch. Sunday is also Senior
Day on the Livingston campus, as UWA will
honor its 10 seniors with a ceremony
beginning at 12:50 p.m.
