Tigers Trek to Stillman for South Region Contest

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama baseball team returns to the diamond on Wednesday, Feb. 25, as UWA (8-6) travels to Stillman College for a NCAA South Region match up. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Stillman Stadium Baseball Complex.

The Tigers are 5-1 away from Tartt Field this season and are riding a three-game road winning streak.

UWA is 42-9 against the SC Tigers, including a current 22 game win streak against its in-state, region foe. Last season, the Red and White took all five meetings, including two at Stillman to close out the regular season.

UWA enters the contest on a two game win streak after sweeping St. Joseph’s (Ind.) this weekend at Tartt Field. Rob Dahlberg paces the Tigers at the plate with a .486 batting average. The Gilbertown, Ala.-native is also the team leader in slugging percentage at .743 and on base percentage with a .568. Mike Schmitt leads the pitching staff with a 3-1 record in 26 1/3 innings pitched. The Cheyenne, Wyo.-product is holding opponent batters to a .228 batting average, while striking out 13 batters, which is third on the team.

SC enters the contest with a 5-7 record after dropping three of four at Tampa over the weekend. The Blue and Gold snapped the Spartans two game win streak with a 4-2 victory in the second contest on Saturday, but dropped both games on Sunday to UT.

After the mid-week contest, West Alabama travels to Cleveland, Miss. to face Delta State in a three-game weekend series. The series begins on Saturday, Feb. 28 with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
