MILLINGTON, Tenn.
– The fifth
ranked University of
West Alabama
baseball team
dropped a 15-1, rain
shortened contest to
#1 Southern Arkansas
at USA Stadium in
the second day of
action at the Gulf
South Conference
Tournament. UWA
falls to 37-13 on
the season while SAU
improves to 46-9.
SAU posted four runs
in its first at-bat,
as James Schroeder
singled to score
Dane Lucas for the
first of the
Mulerider runs. A
batter later Brandon
Graves concluded the
big inning with a
three-run, homerun
that scored
Schroeder and Cannon
Lester, who had a
base hit up the
middle.
The Tigers tallied a
run in the bottom of
the fourth inning.
Jeremy Finney, who
led off the inning
with a walk and
moved over to third
base on a Rob
Dahlberg single down
the right field
line, scored as
Kevin Deese grounded
out to Mulerider
shortstop Andrew
Whittington for the
first out. Dahlberg
moved up to third
base on the play,
but would be
stranded on the base
path as Nick Wheeler
and Brian Simone
were both retired by
strikeout.
The Muleriders added
two more runs in the
fifth, capped by
Lester’s solo homer
to right field. SAU
went on to add four
in the sixth and
five in the seventh
to finish off the
rain shortened game.

the loss in the
contest, throwing
the first 5 1/3
innings, allowing
seven runs on eight
hits. Dom Sapp and
Zane Adams also
pitched in the
contest.
