LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 23rd-ranked University of West Alabama baseball team split a pair of games on Saturday at Tartt Field. UWA (7-5) lost the opening contest of the day 7-3 to No. 3 Ouachita Baptist and held off No. 28 St. Joseph’s for the 6-5 win.

After UWA plated the first run of the game in second inning and held the lead through six innings, SJC (4-1) posted a four spot in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-1 advantage. The Tigers answered with a run outburst of their own in the bottom of the inning, plating five to regain the lead.

With two out and two on base, Jeremy Finney delivered a double to center field to score Dallas Rogers and Kyle Moore. Rob Dahlberg followed, delivering a single through the right side to score Finney, tying the game at 4-4. The final blow of the inning came on a two-run homerun by Nick Wheeler over the left field fence, which scored Dahlberg.

The Pumas pulled within one in the eighth, but managed no further runs the rest of the way.

Kasey Nafzger (1-2) picked up his first win of the season, throwing 7 1/3 innings. The right-hander struck out 12 batters in the effort, allowing four runs on three hits. Brian Burgess (3) threw the final 1 2/3 inning for his third save of the season.

In the opening contest of the day, UWA out-hit OBU 10-6, but managed only three runs in the loss.

UWA held the 2-0 margin until the top of the fourth, when the Purple and Gold clad Tigers tied the contest.

OBU would then erupt for five runs in the seventh inning to take the 7-2 lead. UWA managed one more run in the home half of the inning on a solo homerun by Brian Simone.
