LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 23rd-ranked
University of West Alabama baseball
team dropped its fourth straight
contest, falling 5-3 to No. 3
Ouachita Baptist on Friday, Feb. 20.
UWA falls to 6-5 on the season, as
OBU improves to 10-3.
The Tigers strung together all three
runs on six hits in the contest,
committing two errors. OBU posted 10
hits in the outing with three
miscues.
UWA found itself trailing 3-0
heading into the bottom of the
fifth. The Tigers placed its first
run on the board when Kyle
Standridge scored on an error by the
OBU catcher. The Purple and Gold
would get the three run lead back in
the sixth, but again the Tigers
answered in the home half of the
inning. Sam McCormack, who had
reached previously on a fielder’s
choice, scored on a Jeremy Finney
single to left field.
The Red and White pulled within one
in the seventh, when Kevin Deese
singled to center field to score
Nick Wheeler. OBU would rest on the
one run lead, plating an additional
run in the ninth to secure the win.
Mike Schmitt (3-1) took the loss on
the mound with seven innings
pitched. The senior, righty allowed
four runs on the eight hits in the
contest, while fanning three and
walking two OBU batters.
West Alabama returns to action on
Saturday, Feb. 21, as UWA hosts
Ouachita Baptist. First pitch is
