Ind. – The
University of West
Alabama is among the
48 team field
selected by the NCAA
Division II Baseball
Committee for the
Division II Baseball
Championship. UWA
(37-14), which is
the No. 3-seed in
the South Region,
makes its seventh
appearance in the
national tournament.
The Tigers face No.
6-seed Florida
Southern at 4:30
p.m. at the Southern
Arkansas Baseball
Facility in
Magnolia, Ark. The
game will be
broadcasted on WZNJ
106.5-FM and at
athletics.uwa.edu.
Southern Arkansas,
the 2009 Gulf South
Conference champion,
will serve as the
host for the South
Regional, as the top
seed in the
tournament. Barry,
the Sunshine State
Conference champion,
is the No. 2-seed.
Fellow SSC members
Tampa and Lynn hold
the next two spots.
GSC constituent
Valdosta State is
the seventh seed
with Southern
Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference
champion Stillman
rounding out the
eight-team field.
All regionals are
double-elimination
tournaments and will
be played at
on-campus sites May
14-18. Regional
champions will
advance to the
double-elimination
championship finals
May 23-30 at the USA
Baseball National
Training Complex in
Cary, North
Carolina. The finals
will be hosted by
Mount Olive College
and the town of
Cary, North
Carolina.
